| "This
painting is about an individual as much as about a species. It is meant to be the personal portrait of a
heron that has established its territory in my neighbourhood. For two consecutive summers, I have visited
the place regularly. I have witnessed
the heron maturing and living its solitary life. This bird has been a good,
consistent model. It has also brought
me joy and wonder. Now, the heron is
gone. I am glad that I have created "His Majesty", thereby adding
some permanency to my memory." (artwork and text published in "The Art of Conservation" book (2011)) |
